Take52 Challenge: Week 7 – Cherish

This week, the theme for our photography challenge was ‘Cherish’. These themes are tricky things…they can be obviously simple and singularly complex at the same time. It did get me to thinking along the lines of what I cherish and Family, friends, love, happiness, memories,ย mementoesย etc, come instantly to mind. And although I have ย enough and more pictures of family, once again I wanted to tickle my ‘little grey cells’ (I’m inhabiting the Hercule Poirot universe at the moment, in case you should wonder!), and see if I couldn’t come up with a creative way of presenting abstract emotions.

This is what I thought of…although not unique, in that Google has similarly-styled pictures, I had a lot of fun getting the paraphernalia together, setting up my equipment and clicking away ๐Ÿ™‚ It helped that Hubby and Junior were sent off to dinner at KFC ๐Ÿ˜‰ Oh don’t go getting all judgmental – fast food once a month for dinner never hurt a soul! And Art involves occasional sacrifice non ๐Ÿ˜‰ Well anyway, I spent a happy hour climbing ladders and focusing and playing with the lighting until the boys came home. It’s been a long while since I had such a good time and I must say at the moment this challenge itself is something that I cherish because it has rekindled my motivation for photography, and introduced me to a group of talented, supportive fellow photography enthusiasts who are helping me learn the craft through their considerable skills.

I feel good ๐Ÿ™‚ย

So here are a few pictures I pulled up as I always do…

And here is the one I chose for the challenge ๐Ÿ™‚

NaPoWriMo – Day 9

After the somber tone of yesterday’s Haiku, I wanted to change tack entirely and return to the Happiness that’s always waiting beneath the surface! It is really, just that some days, t’s a hard to get a hold of, put a finger on, Remember – you know what I mean?

So this is my way – of Remembering ๐Ÿ™‚ When I first developed a serious interest in photography – Flowers were my thing! Not only because they are beautiful but because they so obligingly stayed put and allowed me to experiment with light and settings and angles at leisure ๐Ÿ™‚ Yes Flowers were my friends and although it’s been a while since I took some great flower pics, they still remain so today! I love water lilies – there’s something so zen-like in their symmetry and their colors, pristine whites, pretty pinks and royal purples that it’s hard to escape their soothing effect ๐Ÿ™‚ I have a feeling having stumbled upon this picture – that it will be one of many ๐Ÿ˜‰ You have been warned ๐Ÿ˜›

Day 9

Silence is Golden

Munira, this poem is dedicated to you, coz it came to me after our conversation yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a thought that repeats itself to me ever so often, in the midst of the busy days and overwhelming events that threaten to run riot. Silenceย IS truly golden. Essential, life-saving, energizing and rejuvenating! We could all use a bit of quiet in our lives, nah?

So here goes! It’s the first time I’ve abandoned rhyme and not been disgusted with the result ๐Ÿ˜› Hope you like ๐Ÿ™‚

Silence is Golden

Buzzing like bees in my head,

A million thoughts,

Like scrambled eggs and mindless static,

Bubbling white-hot, in molten frenzy.

Amidst the chaos, a slippery threadโ€ฆ

Slim & tenuous…of sanity.

My own personal SOS to the cosmos.

Help it signals, Listenโ€ฆ

Help me unscramble, cool and simplify

this anarchy.

Breathe, it says. A voice or is it just sound?

Inhale! And I do.

Deeply, without reserve, with confidence.

As if my breath were a cleansing breeze,

A luminous zephyr piercing the dark.

At first, Nothing.

No sudden bursts of clarity,

No jagged bolts of enlightenment,

Again. Breathe. Deeper, with abandon.

Watch. Wait. Surrender.

A slow shimmer on the horizon,

Dream or reality?

A gradual glimmer of hope,

Illusion or fact?

The beginnings of a magical dawn? Perhaps.

Watch. Wait. Surrender.

Yes! Yes, I do believe!

Silence. Golden. Peace.
